Who Can I Help

Since you're visiting my website, you're probably wondering if I can help you.
To be honest, we won't really know until after we've worked together for a few sessions.
People often have difficulty describing what I do with them, as no two sessions are ever the same.
-
I may talk with you about your experience.
-
I may gently move you around the table to explore how easily your physical body moves.
-
I may teach you how to move and/or use your body differently.
-
I may gently massage or manipulate your organs, muscles or bones.
-
I many stick acupuncture needles in you.
-
I may suggest doing Functional Lab Testing to evaluate your metabolic health and learn what's actually happening inside your body at the cellular level.

Do You Have Pain?
Pain is a very complicated phenomena. It can be caused by a problem in muscles, nerves, organs, joints or even your connective tissue. Sometimes pain can be caused by a mix-up in how the brain processes sensory signals from the body.
Sometimes muscle pain is caused by a trigger point, a hyper-facilitated reflex, or a dis-articulated joint, which acts as a source of self-perpetuating irritation and needs to be addressed before more functional work can successfully take effect. However, these situations are fairly infrequent and in the vast majority of cases, the primary dysfunction isn't a structural thing, but rather, a process or pattern of behavior. As we address and normalize the behavior, meaning the firing sequence and pattern of muscle fiber recruitment, chronic issues are allowed to finally recover and return to normal.
When most people think about muscles, what comes to mind are the big, powerful muscles that move your skeleton. But muscles are actually found throughout your entire body. Your heart and blood vessels, diaphragm, esophagus, stomach, large & small intestines, urinary bladder, gall bladder and (in females) the uterus, are all muscles. Even your skin, eyes, ears and lungs rely on muscles to function.
This explains why simply helping muscles to function better and regain normal behavior, can permanently resolve many chronic and lifelong health conditions - because muscle tissue in one form or another, is implicated in virtually all chronic conditions.
Furthermore, the only way to perceive and treat dysfunctional muscle behavior is with hands-on examination and treatment, of which there are a variety of methods like acupuncture, movement education and various gentle, hands-on techniques. These techniques do not include high-velocity chiropractic type adjustments. Chiropractic adjustments often provide immediate short-term, symptomatic relief, but do nothing to re-educate and help the body to function more efficiently.
Even with all our advanced medical technologies, pharmaceutical breakthroughs and modern diagnostic imaging methods, like MRIs, CT scans and x-rays, doctors still have no medical test or treatment strategy for dysfunctional muscle behavior and are helpless to either recognize or remedy its impairment.
When we further factor in the current medical climate of 15 minutes per patient and over-reliance on technology, rather than old-school, bedside diagnosis, it's no wonder that people suffer with so many unnecessary health conditions.
The purpose of my hands-on work is to assess how your body does and does not move, and how functionally integrated you are during any given action. I'm less concerned with how far you can turn your head, than with how well the rest of your body, particularly your chest, ribs and abdominal viscera, help to facilitate the action of turning your head. It's precisely this functional integration or lack thereof, that contributes to the vast majority of debilitating pain and movement limitations that so many people suffer with.

What sets my work apart isn't so much the techniques I employ. Rather, it's my emphasis on the interconnectedness of the whole. By recognizing and addressing the interconnected aspects our our self, miracles are frequently allowed to happen.
But it's also important to remember that as with any medical intervention, the actual treatment is generally the patient’s response to the what the practitioner does, not what the practitioner does per se. The goal of the treatment is to help the organism regain its normal balance by engaging it in a dialogue through gentle forms of stimulation.

Although much of my practice is devoted to musculoskeletal, neurological and psycho-emotional issues, I've successfully worked with all types of conditions and patients of all ages.
